SPIRITUAL MEANING

A Memorial to the Passover Lamb

and the deliverance from Egypt

Leaven is a type of Evil.  God desires

His people to be

free from Evil.

The Wave Sheaf

was praise to God

for the first harvest

of barley.

The Wave Offering of the Loaves baked with Leaven was praise for the full early harvest.

A time specified by God "for the blowing of the trumpets."

In celebration of the complete Fall harvest.

This is one annual day for "Israel's Cleansing from Sin."  A time

to afflict the soul in repentance.

A Memorial of the Wandering in the Wilderness.  One week all families to live in booths.  A "Harvest Fest."

HOW observed by the JEWS

Observed by every household who ate the Passover Lamb and the Meal in memory of the Passover in Egypt.

All families were careful to purge all Leaven from their homes for this

week as a sign of abstaining from sin.

Worshippers watch in Temple as the Priest waves the Sheaf in thanks to God for the first harvest of barley.

Worshippers in the Temple watch the Priest wave the 2 leavened loaves in praise to God for the full early harvest each year.

During two days of this Festival, 30 trumpets were to blow.  The "Last Trump," the

great Tek'iah, was

at sundown.

Known also as Yom Kippur, "covering for sin."  After 7 days of affliction on the Nation is forgiven by God.

The greatest of the Festivals especially the last (eighth) day, known as the last - "the Great Day" of the Feast.

HOW observed BY JESUS

Jesus and His disciples partook of the Passover Meal one day early.

Jesus and His disciples certainly observed the rules concerning purging out the Leaven from all.

No doubt Jesus was in the temple as the Priest waved the

barley sheaf.

Jesus attended this Festival, and spoke out publicly the last day, after the Water Pouring ceremony.

HOW fulfilled BY JESUS

Christ gave His life on the Cross as the Passover Lamb of God for our

salvation.

The sinless body of Jesus was laid in the Tomb for three days and nights.

Jesus Christ arose after 3 days and 3 nights, as the First Fruits of the

Resurrection.

On the Day of Pentecost Christ poured out the Holy Spirit upon human flesh, typified by the

leavened loaves.

EXPECTED FULFILLMENT

Christ's death as God's Passover Lamb provides

salvation for all believers.

By His holy life, Christ gives His imputed righteousness to all who believe in Him.

Christ overcame Death, hell and the Grave.  Because He lives, we too shall live!

Though we are weak and sinful, the Holy Spirit is given to empower and guide us.

It is possible that Christ will fulfill

Trumpets as He did the first four Festivals, by His return for us.

On this day our Lord will return in power, and He will reconcile the Jews and restore them to His favor.

It may be on this day our Lord will set up His Millennial Kingdom, God will dwell on Earth with man.

RESPONSE OF CHRISTIANS

Christians accept Jesus as "the Lamb of God," and He becomes their

Savior from sin.

Christians are

baptized in water,

and put away sin

from their lives.

Christians are resurrected with Jesus Christ in newness of life.  Jesus is the

First Fruits of the  Resurrection.

Christians are baptized in the Holy Spirit, and guided and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Christians look for the soon coming of Jesus Christ with anticipation and longing.

Christians pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and for the

reconciliation of

Israel to their Messiah.

Christians will be with Christ, and will share the Millennial Kingdom on the Earth.
